Biography:
Dr. Yang Tong is an Associate Professor and a "Zhishan Young Scholar" at Southeast University. She graduated in June 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Japanese from Shanghai International Studies University and subsequently pursued further studies in Japan for ten years. From 2009 to 2012, she obtained her Master's degree in Education from the University of Tokyo, and in 2018, she received her Ph.D. in Education from the same university.
From April to September 2018, she served as a Research Fellow at the Graduate School of Education, the University of Tokyo. In November 2018, she joined the Department of Japanese, School of Foreign Languages, Southeast University, where she teaches core Japanese language courses.During her time abroad, she undertook short-term academic visits to National Taiwan University, the University of Liverpool (UK), and the University of California, Berkeley (USA). She also gained two years of research experience at the Center for Research and Development of Higher Education at the University of Tokyo and the Center for University Studies at the University of Tsukuba.
She has worked as a Chinese language trainer and interpreter for major Japanese corporations such as Canon and Sony. In addition, she has served as an interpreter for the International Department of the Ohara School of Ikebana (one of Japan’s leading ikebana schools), and as a legal translator for Belles Fleurs Tokyo, a company specializing in preserved flower arrangements. She has studied ikebana since 2011 and began learning the Japanese tea ceremony in 2015. She holds a second-level teaching license (Associate Professor rank) from the Ohara School and a Level 3 Certificate in Japanese Tea Ceremony Culture.
Research Areas:
1. Comparative Studies of Higher Education in China and Japan, including policy, university reforms, and undergraduate curriculum analysis.
2. Foreign Language Talent Development in China and Japan, focusing on foreign language education strategies, policy, and curriculum design.
3. Translation studies related to Japanese education, sociology, and traditional Japanese culture (tea, incense, and flower arts).
